Feeling better and planning my garden

Finally feeling better and the rash is drying up now that most of the strawberries are out of my sysem.

Stan got tomatoes, onions, and peppers planted for me yesterday.  I know it has been really warm and I hope all the really cold stuff is behind us.  I'll be doing my seed crops this weekend.  I am going to try the square-foot method for some of it.  I am also going to do some herbs in pots this spring and maybe try to bring them in next fall.

Nice Weather

After being sick Monday and not fully functional Tuesday, I am a lot better today.  The weather is supposed to be really nice.  It should be a very busy day at work - I hope I can remember everything I need to get done!

I'm pretty sure I've determined an allergy to strawberries!  My rash was almost cleared up then I ate something with just s few specks of strawberries and the rash was back.  Bummer. Cry

Friday!

It's the first Friday of Lent.  I brought acorn squash soup for lunch and am having a shrimp scampi salad for dinner.

I guess Stan had waffle withdrawal last night.  We haven't gone out for waffles for over a year.  We purchased a waffle iron this week at Kohl's with special discounts and 30% off.  Last night he made four waffles (it makes that many at once.)  He sliced bananas to put on the waffles this morning when he heated them.  Yummy.

I'm going to make a few batches for the freezer this weekend.  It's bread-making weekend too so I'll be in the kitchen a lot.  The weather is supposed to be cooler so it will be a good time to have the oven on.  Now that I don't have so many other things to do, I'm enjoying meal planning and cooking again.

Well, off to work!

Ash Wednesday

I has been a good day.  Mornings at work are busier than afternoons.  It makes it easy to stay on top of things.  I really enjoy working and love the tenants and staff here.  I can't imagine having a better boss.

I felt bad when Stan was still working because he was under such stress after the most recent change of ownership.  A much smaller company bought a very large company and tried to micro manage thousands of employees like there were only 100.  They switched software and the people who had to use it ended up calling it "Stop All Productivity."  I'm glad he decided to retire.

I love this weather.  It is supposed to be 80 tomorrow.  I thought about taking off but we haven't planned anything and I hate to use vacation to just stay home, although I really enjoy being home with hubbs and the girls.

All in all, I love my life right now.  I don't think I've ever been happier.

Mardi Gras!!!!

Great night Monday.  Stan had cabin fever I guess and wanted to go to the book store and World Market after dinner.  And me, I'm always up for shopping!  Got another flamingo.

When Donna was preparing to move back and I was getting a room ready for her, I kept teasing that it would be pink and decorated with flamingos.  All I can say for now is that the room isn't pink.  There are only 4 flamingos, so far, and one peacock.  They are all together in a flock, so they don't take up much room.

Great Weekend

We went to Kohl's Friday after I got home from work.  That was kind of fun.

Saturday it rained all day so we did stuff around the house.  I made a new recipe - an approximation of DDD's Cheeseburger Soup.  It was really great.  Stan liked it.  It doesn't taste like a cheese based soup.

Sunday we went to the Montgomery Street Antique Mall.  We found one McCoy and I got a postcard of an old Fort Worth building that was imploded years ago.  I love the old postcards, especially if they were sent to someone years ago.

One kind of sad thing I saw there was a photo album with family photos and wedding pictures.  The wedding was probably in the 40s.  You could look through the pages and see the bride getting older and children growing up and then grandchildren.  It was like a watching a family history speed by.  I see old photos all the time at antique stores.  They are usually the old tintype or photos from that era.  I’ve never seen a wedding album or photos so recent.  It made me wonder what happened to all the people in the photos.  There were too many for all of them to be gone.  Did they not get a chance to claim any of the photos?  Were they not offered to the family?  Did someone just buy out everything at an estate sale then dump it at the antique mall?  All questions for which I’ll never know an answer.

Rain then Sun

We changed our minds about dinner and went to our favorite local Mexican restaurant.  It was so nice.  They were busier than usual but not packed like the chain places.  I realized it reminds me of the place we go to for breakfast in San Antonio except there are no Christmas lights.

I got lots of flamingos for Valentine's Day.  I now a have a "Flamingo Crossing" yard sign, two indoor/outdoor standing flamingos, a smaller pot-sized flamingo, and salt and pepper shakers that are flamingos in pool floats.  (I think I still need more of the plastic yard flamingos though!)

Well, the sun is coming out and my lunch hour is almost over, so, back to work.

Happy Valentine's Day

Walter is home from the hospital.  We don't really know what was wrong with him but he feels OK and is glad to be home.  He and Stan talked a little about his diet for the next few days - mostly soft foods until he is 100%.

Stan took Penny back home.  She followed me around the house all last night and this morning.   I think she missed Two.

I'm looking forward to a quiet evening with Stan and the girls.  We are having a simple dinner  -  I'm making Croque Monsieur.

I hope everyone has a wonderful evening planned with friends, family or other special people.
